Batik is a wax-resist technique for producing designs and patterns on fabric. Wax is applied to the fabric with a brush, tjanting tool or stamp prior to dyeing to keep the color from reaching the fiber. After coloring, the wax is removed. This wax is water-soluble, allowing you to eventually wash the wax away to create dynamic, layered designs.
