WHAT IS BFL WOOL? Named for its distinctive dark-blue skin, the Bluefaced Leicester (BFL) sheep is a hardy, sweet-tempered breed that has been valued in England for its lustrous wool since medieval times. Its fiber compares favorably to merino--BFL is lustrous, with a long staple, and soft enough to wear against bare skin. BEGINNER-FRIENDLY: This wool is an excellent fiber for beginning spinners: we pre-drafted this roving to thumb thickness which makes learning to spin your own yarn a breeze. The extra thin roving width also makes it ideal for adding textural variety to woven wall hangings. No extra steps are required to start weaving! BFL also felts wonderfully, no matter your preferred method. It is equally suitable for needle felting, wet felting, nuno felting, and for making felted soaps and dryer balls. HAND DYED TO PERFECTION: Our Hand Dyed Wool Roving is carefully kettle dyed in small batches to create tonally complex, vivid coloring with nuances that can only be achieved by hand dyeing. We are proud to offer these variegated colors to discerning crafters who appreciate the unique qualities of hand dyed fiber. Because it is hand dyed, colors can vary from batch to batch. KIND TO SKIN & PLANET: Our BFL wool is cruelty free and ethically sourced from non-mulesed flocks. It is then sustainably dyed by hand using vinegar to set the color. No water was wasted in the dyeing process. Produced in a facility run on solar energy.
