Framer Supply braided picture wire is made from durable braided strands of thin galvanized steel wire. Our wire is strong, yet still flexible enough to bend and wrap easily while maintaining its structural integrity. It can be cut easily with any sort of wire clippers. Number of strands will increase as size goes up. A higher wire number means the wire size is heavier, larger in diameter and stronger.

Cut wire to be approximately 1.5 times the width of the picture you intend to hang to ensure enough slack for proper knotting and hanging. You can even double up (two lengths of wire wrapped loosely around each other to make a single thicker wire) in order to create additional hanging strength. This is usually done with the larger wire sizes where sizing up is not an option. We recommend using a larks head knot, and then wrap the wire back eight full rotations for the strongest hold.

Special Considerations: Like most picture hanging wire, braided picture wire has a Maximum Picture Weight designation. For this wire, the Maximum Picture Weight is set at about 25% of the Wire Breaking Point (the point at which the wire, under ideal test conditions, will fail). When hanging pictures, DO NOT exceed the specified Maximum Picture Weight for the picture wire you are using.
